Contemporary Art: Kara Walker

Does it happen to you sometimes while browsing thorough a gallery that you look at the contemporary piece and wonder: “what is this all about?” “what’s the message here” or even worse, “Is it really art?”
Well, it happens to me often, so I’ve decided to create this corner to invite you into the contemporary art journey where everybody is welcome to share their opinions and knowledge about particular pieces.
I’ ll start with one of the most controversial artists of 21-century, Kara Walker. She was selected by “Time” magazine as one of the top hundred artists and entertainers that “shaped the world”. To read the article on the website click here

Ann Neidhardt is a visual artist in NYVA Fall Studio Tour. She is inspired by the work of Peter Doig.
“I was initially self-taught following retirement from the health care field. I used every book on painting in the Toronto Library System. I later discovered a world of groups to join, courses and workshops to take, and great teachers.”

Joan McGivney is a visual artist in NYVA Fall Studio Tour. An artist educator for many years, she paints both landscapes and the human form, primarily in oils.
“ In my works, I am fascinated by the play of light and shadow. This is also something I admire greatly in Canadian artist Mary Pratt .”

Larry Herscovitch is a visual artist in NYVA Fall Studio Tour. An engineer working in the automotive industry by day, Larry is an impassioned artist by night He admires greatly the work of his teacher Vladimir Ribatchok .
“In my paintings I am trying to capture the immense beauty found in our world. If my work creates a strong feeling in the viewer then I have succeeded as an artist.”
