Joan McGivney

Biography:

A Toronto native, Joan graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Fine Arts in 1971. After this, a teaching degree lead to a 32 year career as a high school Visual Arts teacher., and as Department Head of Visual arts , and then Arts and Technology for 22 years at Michael Power St. Joseph High School.

During her early years in teaching, she painted in her summers and had several art shows; her last in 1982 while pregnant with her first son. With a family and working full time, Joan found little time to paint until recently retiring.

Over the past 4 years she has been painting mainly in oils, both landscapes and the human form. She has been in several group shows and has joined and exhibited with Bayview Art Tour, North Toronto Group of Artists, Scarborough Arts Guild, North York Visual Artists and the Queen Street West Art Crawl.

Last April, 2007, she was featured in a solo show at The Faculty Club , U of T.
